THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – A couple more thoughts from Bits of Wit and Wisdom

Anger is quieted by a gentle word just as fire is quenched by water.

Treat the elderly as if you expect to become one of them.

TODAY –One of the more important air carriers serving the Quad Cities is AirTran. Eric Jeffries, Regional Sales Manager for the carrier, will update us on the service that AirTran provides.  Ralph Stephenson will introduce Eric.

LAST WEEK –Meet Paula Sands Live.  Some of the kids that appear on her show think  “Live” is her last name.  Although she is a Moliner, Paula stated that this is the first time that she has addressed  Moline Rotary.  She wanted to dispel some of the myths that go with being a “star’ on KWQC. First, she stated that she has to provide her own wardrobe. Secondly, she stated that she does her own make up.  She also stated that she does her own hair, and can’t understand why so many viewers focus on her hair styles. Paula indicated that men at the station have to wear make up and it takes them longer to apply the stuff than the women. Third, Paula does work longer than the short time that she appears on the screen. Unlike the network programs, she has only one producer. The two of them sit in front of a big calendar and fill in all of the blanks for each one half hour show each afternoon. The program usually has four guests each day.  A lot of ideas come from viewers, and Paula encouraged the members to help with what they felt important.

Paula began at KWQC (then WOC) twenty six years ago, and she has had PSL for 15 of those years. She stated that she could not have a better job, being a home town girl working in a home town job. When asked about some of her most memorable times, she stated that she has hosted

Bill Cosby twice.  Once she was scheduled to introduce him, and Bill decided to have her spouse do the honors. You could tell that she has a tremendous respect for the actor.

Paula had some interesting stories to tell about her Four Legged Friends, who are part of her Monday show.

Thanks to Jackie Wells who arranged last week's great  program. Jackie has really had some interesting programs during her quarter.  One doesn’t realize the work involved arranging each week's program.
